A driver struck an eight-year-old child on a pedestrian crossing in Huittinen, a town in Satakunta, as the child was walking to school on Thursday, then left the scene, Yle reports.
The driver did not stop to check the child’s condition or clarify what had happened. The collision occurred near the junction of Meijerintie and Särkimyskoskenkatu.
Southwest Finland Police confirmed that the case is under investigation and said the child was not seriously injured. Police are seeking witnesses who saw the driver leave.
The child’s mother, Outi Tervaportti, has filed a criminal report and appealed for information in a local Facebook group. She said the children had little time to notice identifying details. After the post, she described the vehicle as a grey sedan. Tervaportti also said witnesses had seen the car speeding before the collision.
