Municipalities across Denmark have warned that institutions, schools and care homes may have to close to balance their budgets, while more Danes are turning to private services, DR reports.

The DR programme Debatten is asking whether municipalities are setting the wrong priorities or need more funding from Christiansborg. It will also examine whether people can expect the same level of welfare in the future, or whether the growth of private services means they should prepare for less public provision.

Politicians will meet residents from municipalities across the country. DR says it will collect the debate’s key points as it unfolds.
