The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) has suffered a cyberattack that may have affected information belonging to as many as 200,000 current and former users, DR reported, citing a university statement.
Hackers accessed the university’s system for managing identities and access rights and retrieved a large amount of data, DTU said. The university described the incident as a serious breach of personal data security.
DTU said it could not yet determine exactly what information was taken or how many people were affected.
“This is a serious attack against DTU, and we very much regret the uncertainty it creates for the people whose information may have been affected,” university director Bjarke Bak Christensen said.
He said the university’s first priority had been to establish the scale of the incident, limit its consequences and notify those affected about what they should do. DTU’s own investigations and the authorities’ investigation are continuing, he said, adding that the university would share more information as it became available.
