Map.is redesign targets mobile users

Iceland’s map website map.is has been redesigned specifically for mobile devices, with faster performance and a refreshed look, mbl.is reports.

The website provides access to real-time data from public bodies including the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration, the Housing and Construction Authority, the Icelandic Meteorological Office and the Icelandic Transport Authority. It also features maps from municipalities and planning authorities.

Loftmyndir ehf. has collected detailed aerial images of all Iceland for 33 years, with a resolution of 5 to 20 centimetres. The first complete imaging of the country was finished in 2006, and Iceland has been photographed again according to a set schedule since then. The company says the full history of the aerial images is now available on map.is.
