Hörður Arnarson, the outgoing chief executive of Landsvirkjun, met Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir as a courtesy before announcing that he would leave the role at the end of October, mbl.is reported.
The meeting took place earlier on Thursday at the Government Offices on Hverfisgata. Landsvirkjun communications director Þóra Arnórsdóttir confirmed it to mbl.is.
Arnórsdóttir said the finance minister had been informed of Arnarson’s decision before the meeting. The meeting with Frostadóttir was, she said, held as a courtesy.
Landsvirkjun had called a staff meeting earlier in the day without disclosing its purpose. Speculation that it concerned Arnarson’s departure proved correct when he announced his decision later that day.
