Landsvirkjun chief executive Hörður Arnarson has gone on a week-long holiday abroad after announcing he would leave the company, mbl.is reports.

Arnarson made the announcement at an employee meeting at Landsvirkjun’s offices in Katrínartún around midday on Thursday. The company’s head of communications and information dissemination, Þóra Arnórsdóttir, said he would not give interviews for now.

Arnórsdóttir said Arnarson was respected and popular among staff, making his announcement an emotional moment. “He wanted to spend this time with the staff, go on holiday and then come back and finish his work. That is why he did not want to give interviews for now,” she said.
