SVT reporters take questions on Sweden’s government deadlock

SVT’s political reporters Erik Nilsson and Daniel Ingmo are answering questions about Sweden’s uncertain government formation, with the next move by the Speaker of the Riksdag still unclear.

The reporters said the Left Party’s strategy is to show it is serious about joining the government and will not back down from its demand. If the party gives up that demand now, they said, it may carry less weight in future negotiations. The same applies to the Sweden Democrats.

Asked whether a snap election would lead to the election of a new Speaker, the reporters said the Riksdag would choose one.
