Gunnar Örn Helgason has been appointed sales manager of Hagar miðlar, a new retail media unit at Hagar, mbl.is reports.

Helgason has more than 20 years of experience in sales, business development and management in Iceland’s retail sector. He joins Hagar from Ölgerðin, where he most recently served as sales manager for the grocery market, leading a sales team and overseeing relationships with some of the company’s largest customers.

He holds a BSc in business administration, with a focus on marketing communications, from Bifröst University.

Hagar miðlar gives suppliers and advertisers a way to promote products and brands in Hagar’s stores. Its offerings include screen and audio advertising in Bónus and Hagkaup stores.

“We are delighted to welcome Gunnar to the team. We will continue to develop Hagar miðlar’s services, and there are many opportunities to strengthen our cooperation with suppliers and advertisers,” said Sesselía Birgisdóttir, head of customer loyalty, experience and media at Hagar.

She said Helgason’s knowledge of the Icelandic retail market and experience developing business relationships would help shape the service and support advertisers in reaching their goals in the company’s stores.
