ICES mackerel advice exceeds this year’s quota by 18%

Next year’s ICES recommendation for mackerel is 18% higher than the quota coastal states set for this year, KVF reports.

The recommendation is 102% higher than ICES’s advice for this year, which was about 174,000 tonnes. Coastal states set a quota of about 300,000 tonnes for this year.

ICES also recommends increasing the maximum allowable catch for all pelagic fish species next year.
