STT corrects report on UK nuclear protection for JEF countries

Finnish news agency STT has corrected a report claiming that Britain would extend nuclear protection to Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) countries outside NATO, Yle reported. The JEF is a military cooperation grouping.

The corrected report was published on Monday under the headline “JEF cooperation to expand, Britain to extend nuclear protection to Finland outside NATO”. STT said Britain is not extending its nuclear protection to JEF countries outside the alliance.

STT originally cited Iltalehti, which based its report on an interview with the commander of the British Navy and comments from the chair of Finland’s Defence Committee. Yle also reported on the issue earlier, citing STT.
