Iceland temperatures reach 17.1 degrees as weather warnings take effect

Temperatures reached 17.1 degrees Celsius in Skaftafell early on Wednesday, with similarly warm readings in Öræfi, mbl.is reported. Warm air is expected across Iceland today.

Yellow weather warnings came into force at 3 a.m. in Northeast Iceland, East Iceland up to Glettingur, Southeast Iceland and the central highlands. They are expected to remain in effect into the morning because of strong winds or storm-force gusts and heavy rain.

The Icelandic Meteorological Office warned that increased runoff and rising rivers and streams could raise the risk of flooding, landslides and accidents.
