Municipalities can raise fees on vacant homes

Municipalities will be allowed to charge up to 8,426 kroner a year for vacant homes next year, KVF reports. The maximum is 7,945 kroner this year, according to the Finance Ministry.

Municipalities are authorised by law to impose the service fee on vacant homes. Some already do so, while others have announced plans to introduce it.

The fee is intended to cover municipal costs for water supply, wastewater disposal, household waste collection and fire preparedness.
