Barði set to resume fishing by year-end

The Icelandic pelagic vessel Barði is expected to return to fishing around the turn of the year, its owner, Sildarvinnslan, told KVF.

Barði was towed to Tórshavn after a fire broke out aboard the vessel north of the Faroe Islands on June 12. Repairs are under way at Mest, and the company says the work is progressing well.

The crew has continued fishing Barði’s blue whiting quota using another vessel, Bjarni Ólafsson, which had been laid up for sale.

Another Icelandic vessel, Jóhanna Gísladóttir, is also being repaired in Tórshavn.
