Vandalism of rainbow flag under investigation in Hveragerði, Iceland
A recent act of vandalism targeting a newly painted rainbow flag in Hveragerði, Iceland, is currently under investigation by the Southern Iceland Police. The flag was created to celebrate Pride Week and was displayed on a street known as Rainbow Street. However, the following morning, it was found defaced with a swastika and other hateful messages.
In response to the incident, local authorities have raised a larger and brighter flag, emphasizing their commitment to unity against such acts of hate. “We are more united and stronger in standing against this. People are coming together again to paint over this hatred,” stated the mayor of Hveragerði.
While there are suspicions regarding those responsible for the vandalism, no confirmations have yet been made. The police continue to investigate the case as a hate crime.
