Man remanded over serious assault on woman in Kópavogur

A man in his 40s has been remanded in custody for four weeks, until October 27, on suspicion of seriously assaulting a woman in her 30s, mbl.is reports.

Police say the man was arrested in an apartment in a residential building in Kópavogur yesterday evening. The woman was taken from the scene to an emergency department with serious injuries.

Police believe the assault took place in the apartment, but say the nature of the relationship between the man and the woman is unclear. A senior police officer said investigators could not yet provide more details about the circumstances, including whether a weapon was used.

Police are awaiting a medical report documenting the woman’s injuries.
