Brynhildur Bolladóttir elected to lead car-free lifestyle group

Brynhildur Bolladóttir was elected chair of the Association for a Car-Free Lifestyle at its annual meeting on Monday, mbl.is reported, citing a statement from the group.

A new board was also elected, including media personality Gísli Marteinn Baldursson and writer and illustrator Rán Flygenring.

“A car-free lifestyle should be a realistic and accessible option for more people, as surveys show that a large group wants to be able to travel in ways other than by car,” the association said. It said progress had been made in recent years but that more needed to be done, adding that it wanted to work with the government, municipalities, businesses and the public on solutions that increase people’s freedom to travel.

“It is time for planning authorities, especially in the capital region, to recognise the importance of making active modes of transport easier. This is the best and only way to improve traffic in the future,” the statement said.

The other board members and alternates are Albína Pálsdóttir, Anna Margrét Ásbjarnardóttir, Geir Finnsson, Gísli Marteinn Baldursson, Halldóra Þórsdóttir, Hrafnhildur Ingibjargardóttir Hallsdóttir, Kjartan Sveinn Guðmundsson, Rán Flygenring, Sveinn Þórhallsson and Viktor Lorange.
