Ikast-Brande council member takes sick leave after threats

Andreas Würtz, a member of the council in Ikast-Brande Municipality, has gone on sick leave with immediate effect after receiving death threats and experiencing harassment, DR reports.

In a Facebook post, Würtz said he had faced extensive harassment over the past few years, and that his family had also been targeted in recent weeks. He said he had received messages urging him to take his own life.

“The specific incidents have been reported to the police, and we have left the further handling to them,” he wrote. “It has hit me very hard, not least because my family has now also been involved.”

Würtz said the situation had affected him more than he had wanted to acknowledge and that his health was no longer good. He has no further comment for now.

He did not say how long he expects to be on sick leave. Würtz is also deputy chair of the municipality’s Climate, Nature and Sustainability Committee.
