Crews pump water from Jökull after its third sinking

Water pumping began Tuesday morning from Jökull, a boat that sank for the third time at the same spot in Hafnarfjörður harbour, mbl.is reported.

The boat has been secured to two heavy trucks to hold it in place and help right it once the water is removed, harbour director Lúðvík Geirsson told mbl.is. When it is afloat, it will be moved to another quay and lifted out of the water.

Two weeks ago, harbour board member Guðmundur Fylkisson told mbl.is that Jökull had been moored at the same quay for many years and had neither been sailed nor repaired between its three sinkings. The owners had not wanted to dispose of it. After the second sinking, they were instructed to remove the boat, and that was due to happen shortly before it sank for the third time.
