Espoo coach remanded over suspected sexual offences against young trainee

Yle reports that police in Western Uusimaa suspect a sports coach of sexual offences against a young trainee.

The alleged offences took place in recent years. The trainee is a minor and much younger than the suspect, who is accused of sexually assaulting a child and sexual abuse. He has been remanded in custody by the Western Uusimaa District Court at the police’s request.

The sports club where the man coached has been informed that a preliminary investigation is under way and is cooperating with police. Police have not named the club or those involved to protect their privacy.

Details of suspected sexual offences against children are confidential under public-records law, police said.
