Employers’ group challenges location-based media funding

The Faroese Employers’ Association has questioned why 10 per cent of the parliamentary allocation for media support is distributed according to where outlets are headquartered, KVF reports.

The association says a media outlet’s location does not in itself indicate its activities and could leave outlets competing in the same market subject to different conditions.

It supports ending project-based grants and instead linking support to outlets’ operating costs, arguing that this would strengthen media organisations with professional journalism and employees.

In its response to the government’s proposal, the association said public support schemes should generally be simple, transparent and based on equal conditions.
