Viðareiði tunnel gains radio system for emergency crews

The tunnel to Viðareiði has been fitted with a radio system that emergency services can use, KVF reports. The system is the newest of its kind and cost 1.4 million kroner.

El-Service carried out the work. The technology was not included in the original tunnel project, which is why the system was installed several years after the tunnel was completed.

Some other tunnels still lack radio systems. Landsverk says the need will be assessed over time, adding that emergency services and people in the area had missed having radio coverage in the Viðareiði tunnel.
