Prosecutors seek prison term over fireworks stored in Vágur home

Prosecutors are seeking a prison sentence for a man accused of storing more than eight tonnes of fireworks in a house in Vágur, KVF reports. The case was heard in court on Monday, and the man denies the charges.
The indictment says 8 tonnes and 233 kilograms of fireworks were kept in the house for about three years. The man did not have permission to store them there. The fireworks were discovered in September 2024.
He is charged under Section 252 of the Criminal Code, which carries a prison sentence of up to eight years for causing an imminent danger to another person’s life or physical safety through profit-seeking, gross recklessness or comparable carelessness.
Police seized the fireworks, which remain in their custody. Prosecutors are seeking permission to have them destroyed. Chief Prosecutor Katrin Thorsvig Hansen confirmed the request for a prison sentence but declined to give further details.
