SVT News has been found to have breached the requirement for factual accuracy in a report about deaths during protests in Iran, SVT reported.
On March 12, SVT published a video and accompanying text under the headline: “Norwegian foreign minister: US was wrong to start the war with Iran.” The text said Iran’s regime was reported to have killed between 30,000 and 40,000 demonstrators over two days in January.
The review board said the publication did not make clear who was the source of the death toll or that the figure was disputed. It also noted that no independent sources were in Iran to verify the numbers. The board concluded that the report was misleading and breached the requirement for factual accuracy.
