Nettó has cut prices by an average of 2.2% on 1,100 products across its stores and plans to keep them unchanged until the end of the year, mbl.is reports.

The price reductions cover chicken, minced beef, eggs, frozen meat products, fruit and vegetables, ready-made meals and baked goods. They also apply to baby products, including baby food, nappies and wet wipes, as well as items from several brands and Nettó’s own-label range.

The company said the move was a response to calls from labour market groups for businesses and the government to contribute to efforts to tackle inflation. Nettó also urged suppliers and manufacturers that have announced price increases to withdraw them.

“At Nettó, we believe it is important to take part in this necessary effort against inflation, which is why we have already cut prices by 2.2% on 1,100 products in our stores,” said Vífill Ingimarsson, the company’s managing director.

He said the aim was to help promote greater stability, protect the basis of collective wage agreements and improve household purchasing power.
