Helgi Magnús Gunnarsson seeks reprimand withdrawal amid Justice Ministry consultation in Iceland

Helgi Magnús Gunnarsson, the Deputy Attorney General of Iceland, is currently receiving assistance from a public relations advisor. He has requested the withdrawal of a reprimand he received in his position two years ago.

Justice Minister Guðrún Hafsteinsdóttir has stated that the ministry is seeking advice regarding Helgi Magnús’s situation, both internally and externally. She has not commented further on the matter until a decision has been reached. During a recent interview, it was reported that Helgi Magnús’s lawyer sent a letter to the Justice Minister, demanding the retraction of the reprimand and the dismissal of a complaint filed last month. Helgi Magnús asserted that, since he was appointed by the minister, the Attorney General lacked the authority to reprimand him.

Currently, he is being represented by the public relations advisor, who is handling inquiries on his behalf. According to this advisor, Helgi Magnús is on leave but is expected to return to work in ten days.
