The Faroe Islands’ Directorate of Education and Nám will merge into one institution from 1 January 2027, KVF reports. The combined organisation will have 88 full-time equivalent positions and a budget of 91.5 million kroner.

Bárður á Lakjuni, the minister for culture, has decided on the merger. It continues structural changes that began when Sernám became part of the Directorate of Education, according to the Ministry of Culture.

The process starts immediately, with the aim of creating more connected services for daycare and education. The new institution will cover development, services, advice, educational materials, IT, evaluation and administration.

Hjalmar Hansen, director of the Directorate of Education, will lead the merger process in close collaboration with Nám director Eyðun Gaard. The leadership teams and all staff at both institutions will take part, with others involved as needed.

The ministry says the merger aims to improve coordination for schools and daycares and bring organisational benefits that will make operations more cost-effective. The 2027 budget proposal includes expected savings of three million kroner.
