Prosecutor seeks 17-year sentence for Margrét

A prosecutor has asked Iceland’s Landsréttur Court of Appeal to increase Margrét Halla Hansdóttir Löf’s prison sentence from 16 to 17 years, mbl.is reports.

Margrét was sentenced to 16 years in prison by a district court after being convicted of causing her father’s death and assaulting her mother. The court found that she had subjected her parents to violence for about 10 hours on the night her father died.

Einar Tryggvason, the prosecutor in the case, confirmed to mbl.is that a 17-year sentence had been requested. Vísir had previously reported the decision.

Margrét appealed the case to Landsréttur. The appeal hearing was held behind closed doors, as was the district court trial.
