Nordea Foundation grants 39.8 million kroner for sports school in Vágur

The Nordea Foundation has awarded 39.8 million kroner for a new sports school in Vágur, Kringvarp Føroya reports. The project must also receive at least the same amount from the state.

The Sports School in Suðuroy has no building of its own and currently rents facilities at eight different locations.

The Folketing, Denmark’s parliament, has already granted five million kroner to the project.

For the new school to be built, the state must provide at least as much funding as the Nordea Foundation. The foundation’s grant is conditional on the Faroese parliament passing a construction law for the project.

Miriam J. Norðberg, head of the sports school, said she was not concerned about securing the remaining funding. She believes a development centre of this kind should be prioritised.
