Professor Kaija Puura has been elected chair of the Mannerheim League for Child Welfare (MLL), Yle reports.

Puura is a professor of child psychiatry at Tampere University and chief physician responsible for the development and innovation of child psychiatry at Tampere University Hospital.

In a statement, Puura said she particularly wanted to focus on societal advocacy.

“Assessments of the effects of political decisions affecting families with children have unfortunately remained limited, and many families have been placed in a weak position as a result,” she said.

The Mannerheim League for Child Welfare is an open civic organisation that promotes the wellbeing of children, young people and families with children.
