Grindavík property company Þórkatla hires caretakers amid earthquake concerns
Earthquakes have prompted action in the town of Grindavík, where the property company Þórkatla is set to hire two caretakers to oversee and maintain residential buildings. Þórkatla has acquired 852 properties, with 917 applications submitted for the purchases. Ensuring these properties remain in good condition is critical.
There have been instances where utilities in some buildings purchased by Þórkatla have failed, raising concerns about the integrity of the infrastructure. Management is focusing on safety. “Many utilities have been compromised,” said Örn Viðar Skúlason, CEO of Þórkatla. “We have encountered failures in houses we have taken over. Now, it is necessary to flush the unoccupied buildings and ensure proper ventilation and other necessary measures.”
In addition to hiring caretakers, Þórkatla plans to engage local contractors to carry out the required maintenance work. The aim is to uphold the properties’ condition and assure the safety of the residents in the area.
As Grindavík faces these challenges, the community is reminded of the importance of maintaining essential infrastructure to support public safety and property values. Weather forecasts indicate mild conditions with possible afternoon showers, which may pose additional considerations for ongoing maintenance efforts in the town.
