Court remands Salo man over alleged fake festival ticket scams

Yle reports that a man living in Salo has been remanded in custody on probable cause of dozens of fraud offences linked to the sale of nonexistent or fake festival tickets online.

The Southwest Finland District Court ordered the man’s detention on Friday at the request of the Southwest Finland Police Department.

Police say there are several dozen victims. The alleged offences took place in June, July and August, with individual losses ranging from a few dozen euros to several hundred euros.

“The total damage caused by the offences is currently in the thousands of euros,” said Jukka Kyynäräinen, the detective chief inspector leading the investigation, in a police statement.

Police urged people to be especially careful when buying products through online discussion forums and marketplaces, and to verify that the item being sold is genuine and actually exists.
