Venstre to question justice minister over AI abuse ads

Venstre will summon Justice Minister Nicolai Wammen for a parliamentary hearing after reports by DR described sexually explicit advertisements on Meta platforms that used AI-generated abuse material.

Venstre justice spokesperson Preben Bang Henriksen wants to know what Danish authorities can do about Meta and how companies linked to the advertisements could be prosecuted under criminal law.

“I find it deeply, deeply shameful,” Henriksen told DR. “There is a clear provision in the Danish Criminal Code. And yet we can see that none of those responsible at Meta and the companies connected to it are being held criminally liable.”

In several cases, images of real people, including children, were manipulated without their consent to make them appear in sexually explicit videos. DR identified one victim as a Danish minor.

According to Red Barnet, four advertisements first show images of children before using artificial intelligence to transform them into videos depicting explicit sexual acts. The organisation has reported all four videos to police as abuse material that breaches Section 235 of the Criminal Code.

DR has contacted the Ministry of Justice and Meta for comment. Their responses were not available at the time of publication.
