IMY to investigate SD mass text messages

Sweden’s Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten (IMY) data protection authority will investigate the Sweden Democrats’ (SD) criticised mass text message campaign, SVT reports.

About 1,500 complaints and tips have been submitted about the messages, IMY said in a press release.

The investigation will examine whether there was a legal basis for processing personal data when the messages were sent and how the recipients were selected.

IMY will also investigate text messages sent by Örebropartiet.

SD said its message was sent to “a broad group” the day before the election. It said the Social Democrats and SD had agreed that all Muslim independent schools should be closed.

The Social Democrats called the message a criminal offence and stressed that they had not reached any agreement with SD on the issue.
