Man with no previous police record held after knife threat

A man who threatened another man with a knife after assaulting him in Laugardalur on Thursday evening had not previously come to the attention of police, mbl.is reports. He did not use the knife, and both men are in their thirties.

Unnar Már Ástþórsson, chief superintendent with the Reykjavík Metropolitan Police, confirmed the information to mbl.is.

Police officers travelling to the scene noticed a car driven away by the man. A pursuit followed, and officers were forced to make him stop the vehicle.

He refused orders to leave the car and fought with police before he was eventually arrested and placed in a holding cell.

Ástþórsson said the man would remain in police custody for much of the day while investigators worked to establish the details of the case.
