Traffic injuries rose in 2025 as deaths fell

A total of 2,832 people were injured or killed in traffic in 2025, an increase of 313 from the previous year, DR reports, citing new figures from Statistics Denmark based on police records.

The number of people killed fell from 145 to 143. It was the tenth consecutive year in which fewer than 200 people were killed in traffic.

Of those injured, 957 suffered minor injuries and 1,732 suffered serious injuries. The number of injured people rose in nearly every transport category, except among moped users.

The number of people injured while riding electric bicycles increased from 173 to 211. Nearly three in four were aged 45 or older.

Police figures provide only an indication of the actual number of people injured in traffic because they cover only reported accidents. Hospital emergency departments also record traffic injuries among people they treat.

In 2024, hospitals recorded 29,589 people injured in traffic, more than 1,000 more than the year before.
