Thunderstorms expected across Finland as Utsjoki sees record summer heat
Tomorrow, Monday afternoon, thunderstorms are expected across both western and eastern Finland. While showers may occur in other areas, Lapland will remain untouched, enjoying clear skies. Utsjoki recorded its 23rd summer heat day on Sunday, exceeding the previous record by two days. More heat wave days are anticipated there next week, according to Yle meteorologist Anne Borgström.
Temperatures in Lapland will not be matched elsewhere in Finland on Monday, although the mercury could rise above 20 degrees Celsius under favorable conditions. By Tuesday, the low-pressure system will have moved on, and rain will only occur in isolated areas of Eastern Finland. Temperatures on Tuesday are expected to be above 20 degrees Celsius, with the highest readings likely in the north, but the heat threshold may also be exceeded further south.
Wednesday will bring an additional rise in temperatures, increasing by a couple of degrees. “The situation will improve quite quickly. The weather looks quite pleasant,” Borgström notes. Warm air will linger over Finland even after Wednesday, but there may be changes on the horizon as the weekend approaches.
