Police pursuit ends in crash and fight
Police in Iceland’s capital region were involved in a vehicle collision and a fight after pursuing a man suspected of attacking another person and threatening him with a knife, mbl.is reported. The incidents were among the cases handled by police between 5 p.m. and 5 a.m.
The suspect left in a car, but failed to stop when ordered to do so. Police then pursued him and had to drive into his vehicle to bring the chase to an end. The man fought with officers, disobeyed their instructions and was placed in a police cell.
Police are also investigating a break-in at a home. The burglar entered an apartment while its residents were asleep and stole valuables.
The emergency department at Landspítali, Iceland’s national hospital, requested police assistance after a young person sought treatment there following an assault. The case is under investigation.
Police and firefighters responded to a report of a vehicle fire. The car was fully engulfed when emergency responders arrived. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, and police are investigating.
Police were also called after a firework was thrown into a car. It exploded, causing harm to the passengers and driver and damaging the vehicle. Officers searched for the car, which was carrying young people who had been throwing fireworks, but did not find it.
