Nostalgia, a well-known Icelandic bar on Tenerife, will move to new premises at the end of the month after operating at its current location for 10 years, mbl.is reports.
The bar is run by Herdís Hrönn Árnadóttir and Sævar Lúðvíksson. Its new location is in El Camison, between the area known as the American beach and Los Cristianos. The busy location is just above the area’s main shopping street, which Herdís describes as Tenerife residents’ Laugavegur.
The owners were previously offered the chance to buy the bar’s old premises, but decided they were not suitable enough. They then began searching for a new location.
“We have been looking at this place for 10 years, so when it became available, we decided to take it,” Herdís said. The new premises are close to the couple’s home.
Nostalgia will open in the mornings at the new location, serving coffee, kleinur and croissants. The owners also plan to retain the Icelandic atmosphere, with fish, schnitzel and meatballs, as well as broadcasts of national team matches.
The new venue will be smaller for match screenings, with space for about 100 people instead of the 500 the old bar could accommodate.
Herdís expects more Icelanders to visit because the new location is closer to the main route. She also anticipates visits from Danes, Finns, Swedes and Norwegians, noting that the Danish venue Little Mermaid is across the street and that many Scandinavians live nearby.
“We are very excited,” Herdís said. “There is naturally a lot to consider and a lot to do, but we are very excited about this new chapter and know much more now than we did 10 years ago when we first opened.”
The owners aim to open before the end of the month and hope to show the men’s football national team’s match against Finland on September 26.
