Thieves cut electric car charging cables in North Zealand

Thieves have cut charging cables from private electric car charging stations 11 times in Helsingør and Ålsgårde in recent days, DR reports.

Unknown offenders targeted garages with electric cars, cutting through the cables attached to private charging points.

Henrik Gilbro of Helsingør discovered that his cable was missing when he returned from shopping on Tuesday morning. He then checked with neighbours across the street who also own electric cars and found that their cables had been cut in the same place.

“You get a little annoyed, and I just think they are stupid,” Gilbro said.

Gilbro had had his private charging station since June and plans to have it repaired.

North Zealand Police said this was the first time it had received reports of charging cable thefts. The police are investigating whether the incidents were acts of vandalism or whether the thieves intended to sell the cables.
