Akureyri plans new housing and business lots in Hrísey

Akureyri Municipality plans to expand the settlement on Hrísey island with new housing and business lots, mbl.is reports. The draft detailed plan covers 8.6 hectares in the northern part of the settlement, mostly above the existing residential area.

The proposal includes 12 detached-house lots, one semi-detached housing lot, three row-house lots and five new business lots.

“There is a desire among people to live on the island, as it is a good place to be. People want lots to be available, and we are responding to that,” Akureyri Mayor Berglind Ósk Guðmundsdóttir told Morgunblaðið.

She said the additional business lots would create more opportunities for commercial activity on the island. The plans also include a football field, which she said could enrich sporting opportunities for children in Hrísey.

The proposal will be available for public consultation through 23 October in the planning portal, where people can submit comments.
