Six of Denmark’s largest municipalities have asked Justice Minister Nicolaj Wammen for help after a police halt on issuing child certificates left hundreds of positions unfilled, DR reports.

Copenhagen, Aarhus, Aalborg, Odense, Esbjerg and Randers said in a joint letter that the lack of certificates meant they could not carry out legally required duties or maintain operations involving children and young people.

Aarhus Municipality alone has put the hiring of 400 people on hold.

The halt was caused by an error in the Criminal Register that deleted information potentially relevant to issuing child certificates and firearms permits.
