Faroe Islands hospital tests robot-assisted surgery

Kringvarp Føroya reports that the National Hospital of the Faroe Islands is testing new robotic technology that could change how patients undergo surgery. The project is examining how the technology can be used in the Faroese hospital system, including to make surgical procedures easier.

The trial has progressed to the point where the first patients have already undergone surgery using the robot.

The technology could also enable remote-controlled surgery. In the future, a surgeon in Denmark could control the robot while the patient is operated on at the National Hospital.

If the project produces positive results, the technology could make it possible to carry out more surgeries in the Faroe Islands and reduce the number of Faroese patients who need to travel abroad for treatment.
