King Frederik inaugurates Central Jutland emergency agency banner

King Frederik inaugurated a new banner for the Central Jutland branch of Denmark’s Emergency Management Agency during a visit to Herning on Tuesday, DR reported.

As part of the ceremony, the king hammered three nails into the banner: one for the king, one for the homeland and one for the Central Jutland branch.

The visit was a significant occasion for the emergency management centre and for local residents who attended the ceremony.

“It is fun to be part of, and an important thing to support,” said Karoline Houlberg Pedersen, who attended the ceremony.

Jacob Brandt Clausen, a volunteer sergeant in the Emergency Management Agency who also volunteered at the ceremony, called it a historic day.

“It is something to be proud of and shows the unity and community of our unit,” he said.

A symbol of unity and service

The banner serves as the central rallying symbol for each of the agency’s six centres across Denmark. It represents tradition, community and service.

Royally inaugurated banners have been a tradition at Denmark’s barracks for many years. In 2023, the royal household decided that the country’s emergency management units should also receive banners inaugurated by the monarch.

“The banner is a part of me, and we all value it greatly,” said Tommy Lind Krogh, a volunteer with the Emergency Management Agency who attended the ceremony as a spectator.
