Improved fishing conditions reported in Laxá river, Iceland following heavy rainfall
Fishing conditions in Laxá in Dölum have significantly improved following a period of heavy rainfall, which caused the river to swell. Known for being one of Iceland’s premier salmon rivers, Laxá flows through Laxárdal and empties into the sea just south of Búðardalur.
The river’s fishing area extends 25 kilometers from its estuary to Sólheimafoss. Reports indicate that anglers have been enjoying remarkable catches in recent days, with local guide Skjöldur Orri Skjaldarson mentioning that the river is teeming with fish at all fishing spots. He noted that strong runs of fish arrive during high tide, with some fishermen reportedly landing between 40 and 60 fish in a single day.
The water levels have remained high due to the substantial rainfall, which has contributed to the increased fish yield. “With all the fish in the river, we knew that when the water level rose, as it did last weekend, exciting things would happen,” Skjöldur said.
All guided trips for the remainder of the summer are fully booked, and the atmosphere among anglers is notably positive. “Everyone here has been smiling in recent days,” Skjöldur remarked.
