A crane that toppled into a residential building in central Silkeborg remains in place, with police warning that the affected buildings could collapse, DR reports.

The 80-tonne crane fell into the building near Torvet earlier in the day and has not yet been removed. Central and West Jutland Police said there is also a risk that the crane could topple further and urged the public to respect the cordon.

No one was injured. Residents of the apartment building and businesses on the ground floor remain evacuated.

Police said it is not yet known when the crane can be removed because two cranes are needed for the operation, while only one is currently available.

The accident occurred during construction work on a property, when the crane fell into the neighbouring building. The Working Environment Authority is investigating the cause.
