Public schools now have 100 more children in special classes

There are now 275 children in special classes in the public school system, 100 more than five years ago, Kringvarp Føroya (KVF) reports.

The number rose from 175 in 2021. In addition, 69 students now attend Skúlan á Trøðni, a school for students covered by a special arrangement, compared with 54 in 2021.

Fía Selma Nielsen, a member of the Løgting, asked Bárður á Lakjuni, the minister responsible, about special arrangements for public school students.

Special classes will cost the government 51 million kroner this year, 19 million kroner more than in 2021. The allocation for Skúlan á Trøðni is 25.6 million kroner in 2026, up from 16.3 million kroner in 2021.
