Hildur Sverrisdóttir questions future of coalition government in Iceland

Hildur Sverrisdóttir, a member of Iceland’s Independence Party, believes it is highly unlikely that the current coalition government, comprised of the Independence Party, the Progressive Party, and the Left Green Movement, will continue after the upcoming elections. In a recent interview with a Sunday publication, she described the coalition as an unusual partnership that has faced significant challenges.

Hildur expressed her view that the Independence Party has made concessions to the Left Greens, which, in turn, feel they have also given in too much to the Independence Party. Despite these struggles, she noted that the coalition has successfully passed several key pieces of legislation, including immigration laws, police laws, and the consolidation of government agencies, all of which were achieved just before the parliamentary session ended in the spring.
