Midflokkurin seeks mandatory counselling before abortions

The Faroese parliament will again debate abortion legislation, Kringvarp Føroya reports. Midflokkurin has submitted a bill to amend the abortion law.

Under the proposal, women would still decide whether to have an abortion. However, they would be required to receive counselling and time to consider their decision before making a final choice. They would also be offered an ultrasound examination during that period.

Midflokkurin also proposes that women applying for an abortion should anonymously state why they are seeking one. The bill will receive its first reading in parliament on September 24.
