Faroese lawmakers will discuss the country’s PISA results and school pupils’ weak reading performance in a KVF radio programme on Friday.

The PISA assessment and the lack of reading skills among Faroese school pupils have dominated news coverage this week. Teachers, parents and researchers have expressed concern and warned about the results.

Poor results in Denmark have led to a proposal to ban mobile phones in schools, while in Sweden the PISA results have become a major issue in the election campaign.

The Faroese government minister responsible for the issue has urged caution and said there is no need to panic. The programme will ask members of the parliament’s culture committee for their views.

Astrid Breckmann, Liljan Wehe and Atli F. Johansen will appear on Breddin, which airs at 10am.
