Finnish Border Guard, Helsinki, illegal entry

Yle reports that Finnish Border Guard officers found six people hidden inside a car at the Port of Helsinki on Sunday, September 6.

Five of them were Eritrean citizens and one was a Moroccan citizen. The car had arrived on a ferry from Tallinn.

The vehicle was driven by a foreign national who was remanded in custody by the Helsinki District Court on Wednesday on suspicion of arranging illegal entry.

According to the Finnish Border Guard, the case is part of a wider phenomenon in which people who have entered the Schengen area from Belarus irregularly are transported through different countries to other parts of Europe.
